Straight answers to the questions people ask before setting their first trap.

How do I set it up?

Most Catchmaster glue traps are ready to use: peel back the release paper and set the trap down glue side up. For Catch & Toss, drop the glue board into the box and close it before you place it. If your match is a snap trap, follow the setting instructions on the package. Wearing gloves keeps your scent off the trap and your hands off the glue.

Where should I put it?

Mice and rats travel along walls rather than across open floor, so place traps flat against baseboards, behind appliances, under sinks, and near entry points. Droppings and gnaw marks are your best clues to where they're traveling. Several traps along the same path give you better coverage than one trap in the middle of a room. Keep traps away from food prep surfaces and out of reach of children and pets.

What should I expect?

Results depend on how active the problem is and how close your traps are to the paths rodents use. Check your traps daily so you know when to swap one out. If you're not seeing results after 48 hours, move the trap along a wall or baseboard where pests typically travel. Keep a few traps down after your last catch to confirm the activity has stopped.

Can I use this in a home with kids and pets?

Catchmaster glue traps are Pesticide Free and designed with family use in mind. The glue is strong enough to hold a rodent, so it will grab fingers, paws, and fur too. Place traps where kids and pets can't reach, like behind appliances or inside cabinets, or choose Catch & Toss, which keeps the glue board inside a closed box. If something gets stuck, don't pull: work vegetable oil into the area to loosen the glue.

How do I get rid of a used trap?

With Catch & Toss, pick it up by the handle and toss the whole box in an outdoor bin without opening it. For a flat glue board, fold it in half glue side in, seal it in a plastic bag, and put it in your outdoor trash. Wear gloves and wash your hands afterward.

What if I'm not catching anything?

Placement is usually the fix, not the trap. Move traps tight against walls in areas with fresh droppings, and add a second or third trap along the same route. It also helps to find and seal where they're getting in. Our guide to finding mice entry points walks you through it.

Catch & Toss: never touch it, never see it

If handling the trap is the part you are dreading, this is the one to look at. The Catch & Toss no-touch trap stays closed from the moment you set it down to the moment it goes in the bin.

  1. On a kitchen counter, a hand lowers the black glue tray into an open Catch & Toss box, navy with a gold leaf pattern, beside a potted herb.
    Step one

Drop the glue board in and close the box.

  2. The closed Catch & Toss box set on a wood floor against a white baseboard, entry hole at one end, a rug in front.
    Step two

Set it where mice travel, like along a wall, and walk away.

  3. A hand lets go of the closed Catch & Toss box as it drops into a trash bin in a sunlit utility room.
    Step three

Toss the whole trap in an outdoor bin, without opening it.
